PEPPER _last update Nov 24th (update coming soon Aug 2010)
5 yr old Blue Roan QH/Paint standing at 14.3 hh. Pepper is a non registered gelding out of Peppy's Blue Monkey X Dream Express (Paint Mare - mainly QH lines). He has excellent blood lines and he's progressing well in his training.
At this point he shows a very strong athletic ability, quick as a whip, smooth gait and sweet disposition. Excellent voice command response, say WHOA and he stops! A good example of this, while warming up in the round pen this September, he put on some steam when he broke into a lope, slipped and fell, and in the process of getting up, broke the tie between the back cinch and front. The back cinch proceeded to slip towards his flank causing him to buck and run away as he got up from his fall. Within a quarter of the round pen circle he came to a stop by voice command and stayed calm.
*update on Pepper's progress coming soon*
Pepper is proving to be very light and responsive, easy going fellow. As of Oct 1st, he had a good walk, jog, halt, turn on forehand, open gate, mount/dismount both sides and some lope. This fall/winter he'll be started on our Sparky Roping dummy. Pepper will be well sacked out and exposed to a variety of things to develop a well rounded young horse. I always aim at having a solid horse that develops well mentally and physically and Pepper is showing strong signs of handling his training in good stride.
Oct 4th I had Pepper lope off nicely a few times and had not riden him since that day. He sat for well over a month, by the time I got back on him. Nov 15th I saddled him up for a Windy day ride. He was most excellent. There was no indication of any buck and never has been. He was a keener to ride in the open fields, we did an hour ride, with some good long trots, and lopes. I was impressed with this guys attitude for being left alone for a month and having less than 30 days of riding under saddle.
A few years ago we sold a couple of horses that I had trained, to two separate parties, both parties are very impressed with the training that was done. One party said it's their best horse they have. We seek to give the best picture of what a horse is like so that there are no surprise for the new owner.
